Vehicle collision
Flying-foxes are often hit by moving vehicles at night when they fly off from roadside feed trees. If you hit a flying-fox whilst driving or see one on the road or in the gutter, please stop and without directly touching (use a stick or similar) check to see if it is alive or if it has a live baby tucked up under its wing.
If it’s still alive, please call BCRQ immediately and a volunteer will be sent to rescue the bat. If possible and only if it is safe to do so, place a towel/blanket or a box over the bat until help arrives. If the bat is dead and only if it is safe to do so, move the body off the road.
